March Meet the Maker
Day 23 - Top Tip or Advice:
There is no “ideal” life path.
I’ve graduated from high school, a certificate program, and a diploma program. I never felt sure that what I was doing was “the right path” for me. NEVER. I did it anyway.
Expecting 17-18 year olds to map out their career path is totally ridiculous. I took a year off to work, and I got a huge amount of push back from friends, family, and strangers about it. I had no idea what to choose though, so I took some time to figure that out. That decision - more than any of my education since then - was absolutely the right one.
Looking back, I’d tell my younger self (and any graduate): TAKE YOUR TIME. School won’t disappear. There will always be opportunities. There is no timeline, and no “ideal” life path. Figure out what your path for the next little while will be, and try that. Adjust if necessary.
Your life is more than your career, and your career is more than your education. Choosing to pause and think is far better than regretting the path you chose too quickly. And remember that you can always restart; tiny steps forward are better than no steps at all.
