In today's @manilabulletinlifestyle, I wrote "Netflix Is a Mixtape," taking into account all the '80s going on, not only in the spring 2019 collections, but more so on Netflix, such as in the ultra-funny, titillating, oops-I-didn't-know-I-couldn't-talk-about-sex British teen comedy series Sex Education.
It’s like the ’80s never really left, with only brief intermissions, a few months of trying to simplify things, a season of trying to keep things in monotones, a year of doing away with excesses, and then it’s back again.
Think Balmain and all its high-gloss references from the ‘80s, the loudest of the decade still echoing in its spring 2019 collection. Think oversized denim from Versace. Think Gucci’s shoulder pads and LV’s printed pants. Think Calvin Klein’s animal prints. Even Marc Jacobs has gone big, ruffled, and ’80s!
But nowhere else is the decadent decade more back than on Netflix. On Netflix, the streaming platform that has changed the way we view movies and TV, the ’80s was so good it is now such a cliché, with so many shows set in that decade that keeps on living.
